Marin McElhany

Vice President, EDCC & Founder of Happy Hooves Farm

Marin McElhany’s journey with EDCC began as a child in the program, continuing through high school and college as a staff member, and later as a consultant during her MBA studies. After a decade-long career in finance, Marin returned to EDCC in 2014 as Vice President, bringing with her a passion for innovation, education, and community wellness.

Since then, she has founded Little Green Harvesters, EDCC’s Farm-to-School initiative, and launched Happy Hooves, a Sustainable Farming School located in Livermore, CA. Every summer, all EDCC students participate in immersive, hands-on learning at Happy Hooves, where they gain a deeper understanding of agriculture, sustainability, and animal care.

Throughout the academic year, Marin’s Little Green Harvesters Program visits all eight EDCC sites with a Master Gardener, teaching students how to grow their own food and make healthy, nutritious choices.

In addition to these educational programs, Marin created a grant-funded equine therapy outreach initiative that serves public schools across the Tri-Valley region. Each fall (Sept–Nov) and spring (April–May), the Happy Hooves team brings therapy animals into classrooms, offering students in need a calming, joyful experience that eases anxiety and fosters connection in a safe and nurturing environment.

Many students touched by this outreach become volunteers and interns at the farm, making Happy Hooves not just a place of learning—but a second home.
