Your child’s time before and after school should be filled with quality activities and supervised by excellent teachers.
Dr. Cheryl McElhany – EDCC President of the Board
Dr. Cheryl McElhany founded EDCC in 1986 when school age child care was limited or missing from most elementary schools at that time. Motivated by a need for a quality program for her own first grade daughter, she was successful in opening the first EDCC center at Walnut Grove Elementary School in Pleasanton. An elementary principal at the time in a neighboring district, Dr. McElhany designed a superior school-age before and after school program, hired excellent staff to run the center, and continued to open new centers at other locations, now running for 29 years in the Pleasanton and Dublin school districts.
Today Dr. McElhany serves as the President of EDCC. She has been a classroom teacher, school principal at the K-8 level, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent in the Lafayette/Moraga school district.. She continues to work with teachers and instruct at the college level. The EDCC design of service and standards developed by Dr. McElhany are strongly aligned with the National After-school Association (NAA) Standards.
Marin McElhany – D’Acquisto MBA, EDCC Vice President/ HR/Marketing
Marin McElhany -D’Acquisto, Vice President of EDCC holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Northeastern University and MBA from San Francisco State University. Mrs. McElhany- D’Acquisto assists with the annual human resources and technology training, as well as providing accounting, marketing support. Having the distinction of being the first enrolled child at EDCC in 1986, Marin grew up attending EDCC as an elementary student, and worked at EDCC during her teenage and college years. She maintains a close partnership with her mother in the oversight of the business operations of EDCC. She is also a Marketo Rockstar!
Doris Dannels – EDCC Executive Director
Mrs. Doris Dannels began her career over 30 years ago directing school-age child care programs in Concord, CA and Vancouver, Washington. Most recently, Doris was nationally recognized as the recipient of the “Quest For Excellence Award” presented by the School-Age Notes Foundation at the National After School Association Conference. Doris was the Site Director at the Fred Center for over 13 years before becoming our Executive Director in 2012.
Wendy Totten – EDCC Business Manager
Mrs.Wendy Totten has been employed in our business office for over 20 years. She handles the day-to-day financial operations for EDCC. Her background is in accounting and business management. Mrs. Totten has greatly enhanced the efficiency of the EDCC Business Office. If it is running correctly chances are Wendy had a part in it.
Dougherty Elementary – Noreen Casabar – Site Director/ EDCC Curriculum Specialist
Mrs. Noreen Casabar is the Site Director at Dougherty Elementary School. She has a BA Degree from Cal Poly State University in Child Development and has numerous years of experience in the child care field. She was the Site Director at the Fallon Center and Walnut Grove before transferring to the Dougherty Site. Noreen is an avid health enthusiast and leads her center in winning most of our health challenges.
In 2015 Noreen became an EDCC Curriculum Mentor. This position helps create a synergy between all of our EDCC centers in science, arts, sports, and other innovative curriculum. Noreen loves to see how all the centers are applying these skills and she shares the successes and teachings with other sites.
Ms. Vanessa Sinclair is the EDCC Site Director at Dublin Elementary. She holds a Bachelor Degree and Teaching Credential from Sacramento State University. Vanessa taught 2nd grade in the United Arab Emirates as well she has numerous years of teaching K-6 reading, comprehension, phonics, and English Language Development in Southern, CA. Most recently she taught at the Frederiksen Site before transferring to the Dublin Elementary Site.
In 2015 Vanessa became an EDCC Curriculum Mentor. This position helps create a synergy between all of our EDCC centers in science, arts, sports, and other innovative curriculum. Vanessa is leading the way in our STEAM curriculum. She loves to see EDCC students getting excited about science, technology, engineering and maths.
Mrs. Ashley Pauly is the EDCC Site Director at the Murray Elementary. Mrs. Pauly has over four years experience with EDCC at the Green Center. She obtained a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Sonoma State University with experience teaching in second and fifth grades. Ashley enjoys building a great team of teachers and is enthusiastic about yearly conventions where they can expand their curriculum.
Frederiksen Elementary – Kristin Silva- Site Director
Ms. Kristin Silva is the EDCC Site Director at Frederiksen Elementary. She holds a BA in Liberal Studies II, with an emphasis in Elementary Education from San Diego State University. Ms. Silva joined the EDCC family in 2013 and served as Lead Teacher and Director In Training at our Green Elementary site prior to being appointed Director at Frederiksen. She is very passionate about her work as a care giver, educator, and administrator and brings with her work experience in business management, corporate training and child care. When answering the phone, Ms. Silva is known for saying the catchphrase, “It’s a great day at EDCC,” and she is committed to making that adage hold true not only for herself, but for students, parents, and staff alike!
Walnut Grove Elementary – Marissa Minovitz – Site Director
Ms. Marissa Minovitz is the EDCC Site Director at Walnut Grove Elementary School. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology
and Education from the University of California, Berkeley. Marissa has been a Lead Teacher and an Assistant Director for the past
two years before becoming Director at Walnut Grove. She is passionate about providing high-quality education and care to her center. In her spare time, Marissa enjoys figure skating at local ice rinks.
Alexandra Ferraro, Site Director at Kolb EDCC. Ms. Ferraro was born and raised in the Dublin area and is proud to be a valuable member of the EDCC staff since 2008. The strong passion she demonstrated for teaching children was rewarded in 2013 as she was promoted to Assistant Director, a position that didn’t exist prior. She has worked at seven of our sites and has years of experience working with children since she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from San Francisco State University. She enjoys working with kids to teach life lessons and shape the minds of tomorrow. EDCC’s Annual Holiday program is a great display of her dedication as she works with our children to showcase their talents.
Green Elementary – Daisy Beckwith – Site Director
Mrs. Daisy Beckwith is the Site Director at Green Elementary and was previously the Director at Walnut Grove. Mrs. Beckwith holds a Bachelor Degree in Biological Science from California State University East Bay. Mrs. Beckwith has six years of experience teaching and as the Assistant Director at EDCC Green, before transferring to Walnut Grove. Daisy is dedicated to creating an amazing environment for her EDCC students. She loves to garden and see her students get excited about outdoor activities and science.
Amador Elementary – Regina Valenica – Site Director
Ms. Regina Valencia is the Site Director at the newly opened EDCC at Amador Elementary. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Child and Adolescent Development from San Jose State University. Regina has numerous years of child care experience as a teacher and director. She started with EDCC as a teacher at the Walnut Grove Center before transferring to the Fallon Center as a teacher and then director at Kolb Elementary. Regina will be opening the new Amador Elementary EDCC site in Fall 2015. She is our EDCC Trail Blazer and a key part to EDCC’s growth.
